Will of Isabel Mitford of Longbenton

In the name of God, Amen. I Isabell Midford of Longbenton in the county of Northumberland spinster, being weak and sickly of body but of sound perfect and disposing mind and memory, praised be God, yet considering the mortality of my weak body and for the satisfying of my friends and relations after my death do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First and principally I commit and commend my soul unto the hands of almighty God my maker and creator and to Jesus Christ my redeemer, and my body to return to its primitive dust from whence it was taken, to be decently interred at the discretion of my executor, revoking and disannulling all other wills and testaments.

As touching my temporal goods that God hath endowed me withal I give and bequeath them in manner and form following.

First, I give and bequeath to my nephew William Chambers son to my sister Ann Chambers the sum of ten pounds;

Also, I give and bequeath to my nephew John Chambers son to my sister Ann Chambers the sum of ten pounds;

Also, I give and bequeath to my niece Mary Chambers daughter to my sister Ann Chambers the sum of ten pounds;

Also, I give and bequeath to my brother Thomas Chambers all the rest of my goods moveable and unmoveable;

Lastly I constitute and appoint my brother Thomas Chambers to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament, he discharging my debts and funeral expenses. In witness whereof I have hereunto set to my hand and seal the second day of March Anno Domini 1699/1700.

Administration Bond of Jeremiah Abbs of Fulwell, ship-owner

Know all Men by these Presents, that we, William Smith of the Town and County of Newcastle upon Tyne Shipbuilder, John Tinley of Dockwray Square in the parish and Borough of Tynemouth Esquire and Richard Robson of the same place Gentleman are held and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God, WILLIAM, by divine Providence, Lord Bishop of Durham, and to the Right Worshipful JAMES BAKER, Clerk, Master of Arts, his Vicar General and Official Principal, lawfully constituted in the Penal Sum of Three Thousand Pounds, of good and lawful Money of GREAT BRITAIN, to be paid to the said Reverend Father in God, his said Official, or to their certain Attorney, their Executors, Administrators or Assigns; To which Payment, well and truly to be made, we oblige ourselves, and each of us by himself, jointly and severally, for the whole, our and every of our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, firmly by these Presents, sealed with our Seals, dated the Twenty Seventh Day of January in the fourth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord William the Fourth by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty four.
THE CONDITION of this Obligation is such, that if the above bounden William Smith a Creditor and By Decree of Court, Administrator of all and singular the Goods, Chattels, Rights, and Credits of Jeremiah Abbs late of Fulwell in the Parish of Monkwearmouth in the County and Diocese of Durham Shipowner deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said Deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of him the said Administrator or into the hands and possession of any Person or Persons for him and the same so made, do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Consistory Court at Durham at or before the Twenty Seventh Day of July next ensuing: and the said Goods, Chattels, and Credits, and all other the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said Deceased at the Time of his Death, which at any Time after shall come to the hands or possession of the said Administrator or to the Hands of any other Person or Persons for him do well and truly administer according to Law.
And further do make or cause to be made, a true and just Account of his said Administration, at or before the Twenty Seventh Day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Five. And all the Rest and Residue of the said Goods, Chattels, and Credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administrator's Account, the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges for the Time being of the said Court, shall deliver or pay unto such Person or Persons respectively, as the said Judge or Judges by his or their Decree or Sentence, pursuant to the true intent and Meaning of a late Act of Parliament made in the two and twentieth and three and twentieth Years of the Reign of our late Sovereign Lord King Charles the Second, intitled An Act for the better settling of Intestates' Estates, shall limit and appoint. And if it shall hereafter appear, that any Last Will and Testament was made by the said Deceased, and the Executor or Executors therein named do exhibit the same into the said Court, making request to have it allowed and approved; accordingly, if the said Administrator above bounden, being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said letters of Administration, Approbation of such Testament being first had and made in the said Court, then this Obligation to be Void, or else to remain in full Force and Virtue.
